Pencil and wash on paper, 50 x 35 cm’s
In February last year, I visited the Norman Lindsay Gallery in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.
I have always been a bit of a fan of Norman’s work, although he has many detractors. Norman started his career as an illustrator with various Sydney publications, but developed his artisistic ability over the years. His major strength was, to my mind, his draughtsman’s skills, and using these he was able to create exquisite watercolours.
His pencil drawings are inspirational, so I made a quick copy of one of them (above), and have commenced a series of drawings in the more animated poses that Norman would have used – more on these later.
Don’t ask me why she hasn’t got any hands, you need to ask Norman that!
